I mentioned yesterday that the we are redoing our main page:  www.porntopurity.com.  This will soon be the landing place for all of our blogs, resources, podcasts, and social networking.

Marsha and I are pretty excited about all of these changes and developments!

We are working on making our site better, easier to navigate, and great place for you to go to find resources, hope and encouragement as you deal with sexual struggles.  

Very soon, all traffic from http://porntopurity.wordpress.com will be diverted over to www.porntopurity.com. 

At the new Porntopurity.com you’ll find four main sections:

1.  Start Here – This section is for new visitors to the site and those new to sexual crisis in their life or marriage. 
2. Blog – Our Porn to Purity Blog will be here.  We put out fresh content 3-5x week.  Things we are learning in our recovery, resources we are discovering, and interactions with those in recovery.
3. Podcasts – This will be come the hub for the Porn to Purity Podcast and the Top Tips For Sexual Purity Podcast.  Here you can subscribe to our podcasts, see an index of the episodes, and read the shownotes from our episodes.  We also have an extensive list of podcasts that will help you in your recovery. 
4. Resources – This section has had the biggest overhaul.  We have discovered tons of resources to help you in recovery.  Here’s where you can find books, websites, ministries, and counseling resources with summaries of most of the resources. 

I’ll share more of the features of the new site as we bring them online.

Setting Captives Free is a very helpful site that has free online courses for all sorts of addiction issues and for Christian maturity.

I am currently working through their 60-day Way of Purity course.

HOW IT WORKS

1. Register and sign up for whatever course you want
2. You take the course online at your own pace
3. You can select to have a volunteer mentor oversee the process
4. Read the information and scriptures for each day. Answer as many questions as you wish.

REALLY GOOD FEATURES

Accountability – After every session you are asked to respond to questions about sexual purity (immorality, self-gratification, etc.) then it gives you places to elaborate what was going on in your heart and with your circumstances. The accountability only you checking a box, but it’s a good step. It encourages you to be honest and talk it out.

There is also a Progress Meter showing you how many pages you have read that day and what percentage of the program you have completed.

The material also calls you to a commitment in completing all of the material. This is on your own honor, but it’s a little more serious when you check off a box saying you will go through it all.

Mentoring – This is an optional feature. I love the idea of volunteers helping you along the way! Many of us don’t know where to find mentors around us.

User-friendly – The design of the site is wonderful. Each daily lesson has a great layout and flow. The “next page” and “next lesson” buttons are easy to understand. I really like the progress bar.

Biblically-centered material – Each lesson is filled with Scripture. It doesn’t beat you down with just bible verses either. There is a nice balance of biblical guidance, personal guidance, and testimonies. Getting your life in concert with the Bible is definitely a priority with this site.

Encouraging and challenging – Some teachings can beat you down, even bully you, or make you feel shame. This material takes the form of a wise friend guiding you through important points that will help with your healing and finding sexual purity.

Boxes where you can write your thoughts – I like this option. Reading and reflecting is good, but interacting with you by asking you to write things down and elaborate. After many of the boxes, there are quotes from others who have taken the course. Very cool! You really feel like you are part of the community, and not alone.

Go at your own pace – If you wanted to, you could whiz through all 60 lessons. But why would you want to? You can take your time through the material. Let it soak in. Come back to it later if you want. Great feature.

I’m thankful to Gordon McDonald who coins the term “broken world people” in his book Rebuilding Your Broken World.    Broken world people are the people who realize that they have junk in their lives and are powerless to overcome it on their own.  They are the people who have been broken and humbled.  They have come to the end of themselves and realized that they need help.

Broken world people are the people who understand exactly what you’re going through. 

And many broken world people have navigated through their junk, found victory, and come out much stronger. 

The Broken World Club is the best place to be.  In your quest for sexual purity, you need to find these “broken world” people and make them part of your support team.  Broken world people:

1.  Understand what you’re going through – You need people who understand what you are going through.  They’ve been there.  Even if their struggle wasn’t for sexual purity, someone who has been broken will understand struggle.  Those are the type of people you need to connect with. 

   Broken world people know that all of us struggle.  We all have junk.  We all have hard times or deep woundings that are out of our control and overwhelm us.  The broken world people can identify with your junk as well as their own. 

    

2. Know the deep depths of hurt – Broken world people have all been hurt deeply.  They have struggled.  They have come face-to-face with themselves, their hurts, their emotions, their wounds.  They know what it means to be broken.  They know what it means to lose things and to suffer consequences. 

3. Know the deep depths of God’s love – Many broken world people who have found that God is near to the brokenhearted.  He comes close to the broken.  Broken world people have a deeper understanding of Gods love, mercy, goodness, help.  They have learned that He brings the deep healing and they can be an encouragement to you as you seek to connect with God and find healing. 

4. Have seen the back side of the suffering –Broken world people can help us get perspective on our suffering.  In our sexual addiction recovery, we need to know that there is a tomorrow, there is hope, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. 

   We are so shallow in our understanding about life and suffering.  If you can get around broken world people, you will learn some valuable lessons from them that come from the depth of their suffering.  We chase after people who have had great success and victories.  Start chasing after people who have been through the depths of suffering and made it through. 

I talk a lot on the Porn to Purity website about the importance of finding safe people to talk to.  Safe people are the people who will listen to you, encourage you and support you on your recovery journey.  They may have gone through their own battle for sexual purity, or they may have had some other form of suffering. 

Broken world people will be some of the safest people for you to be around.  They will be your biggest supporters, your listening ears, and part of the wisdom that God wants to give you to help you navigate through your journey. 

So keep looking for the Broken World People.  In your churches, in your current friend list, through a support group.  They are out there.  Don’t give up until you find them.
