Secrets: We Want Our Problems to Disappear

July 2, 2009

Secrets_BookThis week Jeff and Marsha are reviewing and sharing insights from the book   Secrets: A True Story of Addiction, Infidelity, and Second Chances by Jonathan Daugherty.  Jonathan is the founder and director of Be Broken Ministries

“Are you broken and repentant over your secret sins?  Or are you simply wnating your problems ‘fixed’ so you can keep moving forward in your life along the path you choose?

I ask them if they are saying they want to simply be free from the consequences of their addictive behaviors, or if they really want to be free to a life of purity and wholeness.”
Secrets, p. 130

We would love for the consequences of our sins to disappear, but deep work is necessary for us to find freedom from sexual sin.

Too often in my own life, I don’t want to do the work that is required to have deep healing.  I would love for an extra 30 pounds of fat to disappear from my belly.  But I don’t want to do the work and lifestyle change required for that.

We want an eraser don’t we?  We want it to be painless.  We want to be able to confess and be done with it.

God is interested in true transformation for you and me.  He needs us to learn to be broken and to repent.  A u-turn is required for God to show up and help us work this thing out.

Let’s go for the whole wad, guys!
