8 Things I Surrender Everyday

July 5, 2009

I wanted to share with you a list of things I pray for each day as I continue in my recovery.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without Me.” John 15:5 (NIV)

I carry a notebook with me most places I go. I use it to record thoughts, insights or helpful tips for recovery. I have a list in the front of the book called “My Daily Burdens”. These are things I realize that were impossible for me to do. I need to surrender each of these areas to God to let Him take control.

Truth is, we need God for everything, don’t we?

But these areas are areas of tension. These are the areas I have struggled with and are very current in my goals to get better. These are areas I’m tempted to try and control. I need to be reminded the importance of surrender.

Here they are:

surrender1. Victory over Porn, Lust, Masturbation & Objectifying Women – only God can do the deep work necessary for me to succeed here.

2. God’s approval and glory only – it’s so easy to strive for the approval of my boss, wife, or friends. One of my root problems in my addiction is a desire for the approval of others.

3. Cultivate godly masculinity – I’ve been underdeveloped here, and I’ve let culture tell me what it means to be a “real” man.

4. Good husband and father

5. My job and ministry – I had to leave the ministry in 2007 to work on recovery. I want to trust God for my future.

6. Intimacy with God (worship) – Another underdeveloped area. I want to fall in love with God again.

7. Witness with my mouth and life – I’ve been so focused on myself, that I had lost interest in sharing my faith. I need God’s power to be the witness He wants me to be.

8. Website, blog and podcast development – The sites are a new venture still for myself and Marsha. I want to put them into His hands to use however He wishes.
