Great Advice: Run Away From Immorality

August 11, 2009

Flee sexual immorality. I Corinthians 6:18

run awayI was reminded recently that the only appropriate and biblical response to immoral content and situations is to RUN AWAY.

We are frequently tempted during our recovery period. Tempted to fall back into old behaviors. Tempted to let our guard slide. Tempted to surf around for those “sneaky snacks”. The only response to this temptation is RUN AWAY.

Some temptations can be extinguished by prayer, time in the Word, doing righteous behaviors, talking to friends, or keeping your mouth shut. But sexual temptations shouldn’t be played around with. They will not help us grow stronger. They will burn us.

einsteinConsider the words of Proverbs 6:27-29, a passage about dealing with the adulterous woman:

27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap
without his clothes being burned?

28 Can a man walk on hot coals
without his feet being scorched?

29 So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife;
no one who touches her will go unpunished.

When we hang around with sexual temptation and immorality, we get burned.

For some reason we want to “fight sexual temptation”. We want to “fight immorality”. This is not even biblical. We don’t have the ability to fight it off. It’s too big for us. It’s to overpowering. And for many of us, we’ve been in bondage to it before. There are no warriors when it comes to sexual temptation, except God. Run away. Yield the battle to God. Call on Him for strength.

  • Don’t try to fight it with your spiritual prowess…RUN AWAY
  • Don’t go casting out devils…RUN AWAY
  • Don’t think this struggle will make you stronger…RUN AWAY
  • Don’t think it’s OK to dabble…RUN AWAY
  • Don’t try to reason with immoral people…RUN AWAY
