Overwhelmed By God’s Grace

September 5, 2009

I was overwhelmed by God’s grace and kindness today. I am healing faster and better because I am aware of God’s grace.

WHAT IS GRACE?

God’s grace is His kindness and love poured out on us through Jesus Christ. It is what was done on the cross and its continuing effects on my life. We don’t deserve God’s grace, provision, protection and love. But God extends His love for us. He takes care of us. And He seeks to glorify Himself through us.

WE THINK GOD HAS BUTTONS
Our view of grace is pretty skewed. We think that God has a good button and a bad button.

God’s Good Button
– This button is pushed when we are good. When we obey. When we do nice things for others. When we don’t look at porn or masturbate.  When we are nice to our wives. We think when we are good that God should open his hand of blessing for us, give us things, and make our life easier.

God’s Bad Button
– This button is pushed when we are bad. God punishes us and strikes us with lightening when we do bad things. When we disobey. When we mess up. When we look at porn and masturbate.  We think that God should punish us, take things away, stop loving us.

Does this sound familiar?

Is this where you are at?

Maybe you don’t believe this in your heart, but do you act like it?

Instead, God chooses to show His love toward me at my worst times. I deserve ever bit of punishment and consequence for my sinful choices. God, however, does not treat me according to what I deserve. God shows His love for us through Christ.

He has been intercepting my sexual recovery process with floods of His presence, love, and provision. He has been reaching down to help me through this recovery process. He allowed me to get found out to save me from getting worse. He allowed me to find the bottom, so I would finally realize how much I needed Him.

My life could have been so much worse if God had not show His love and grace for me!

bibleGREAT STUFF FROM ROMANS 8
31What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?

38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  (NIV)
