A Verse of Hope For The Sexually Broken

September 13, 2009

Sometimes in my sexual recovery I felt like there was no hope.  I felt like giving up.  I felt like binging and going back to my old lifestyle.

Let’s face it, the work is hard!  It’s hard to admit our sins.  It’s hard to face the consequences.  It’s hard to have the tough talks with our spouses, counselors, pastors and friends.

locustsHere’s a verse of encouragement for you today from the Old Testament book of Joel:

“I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten — the great locust and the young locust, and the other locusts and the locust swarm — my great army that I sent amoung you.”  (Joel 2:25 NIV”

That may seem like a strange verse.  But God had been judging his people who had rebelled against Him.  To get there attention he sent a massive swarm of locusts to destroy their crops and their livelyhood.  They had been devastated, and would some would turn back to God and repent.

Repentance is a key part of sexual addiction recovery.
Changing our direction.  Turning AWAY from our sins, our old ways, and our unhealthy ways of meeting to our needs.  Then we turning TO God and to new ways of meeting our needs.

God is a God of restoration.  He wants to restore us.  That doesn’t mean life will be like it was.  It can’t be.  It means that a rebuilding takes place, but with healthy materials.  It means that God takes the parts of our lives that fell apart and puts them back together again.  God restores lives.  God brings life again to the things that were dead.  God can take the mess that we have made of our lives, and turn it into something spectacular!

Be encouraged today, friends!  Do the hard work!  Trust that God wants to restore your life to something amazing!
