What I'm Thinking About When I Blog About Sexual Addiction

January 3, 2010

We have moved to porntopurity.com.
I wanted to share with you a “behind-the-scenes” look at the Porn to Purity blog.

My blog ideas come from a lot of places:

  • My own struggles with pornography and lust
  • Conversations with other men
  • Emails we get at porntopurity@gmail.com
  • Reflections from my sexual support group
  • Books and articles I am reading
  • Podcasts I am listening to

I keep a notebook with me most of the time and jot down ideas as I hear them.  Many are for my own benefit, but I’m always thinking about the larger community.  You men and women who struggle with sexual addiction and its effects on your relationships.

WHO I’M WRITING TO

  1.  Myself – Many of my blogs are me working things out in my own life.  Reflections and application
  2. The person who is pursuing sexual purity
  3. The person who has a problem but doesn’t know how bad it is.
  4. The husband and wife that are struggling with the revelation of porn in their marriage.
  5. People who don’t know where to look for resources.
  6. People who are deep in their sexual behaviors and stumble upon our site.

Marsha and I deeply care about you who struggle with sexual addiction or your marriage is hurting.  It is our privilege to offer hope and encouragement through this site.

We say often that we are not experts.  Thankfully, you don’t have to be an expert to offer hope and encouragement.

I appreciate Porn to Purity blog because God uses it to help me dig deeper in my journey. Those of us that are coming out of sexual addiction are bombarded from every direction, usually were very complex people, that are intellectual to some degree and have layers we have to uncover, with pain that has been hidden that causes this addiction to progress over the years.

I know there are those that are Casual Porn Users(CPU) that will say ” I don’t have a problem, it’s normal to think a woman’s hot or sexy – which always goes beyond just that!” I think the problem is that as a society and Church we have so accepted things as normal, that what is really abnormal is so normal and we don’t realize it. I Think those that believe they are CPU are really FPU- Frequent Porn Users (FPU), I know I was one of them.

To the CPU or FPU Christian I ask this… is your relationship with God, your Wife, Chuch and how you view women around you not affected in some way? We hide more than we realize, compartmentalize it and the damage it does, till were caught, then we realize that the mole hill was really a mountain.

I even had periods of being free and attempting to serve God but CPU and FPU always popped back up with triggers such as- the girl at the mall, the image in the email, the video on You Tube, the post on Craigslist, the IMs, chat rooms that ALL started out as innocent. I have learned that repressing is NOT victory and I was not honest with me and my need to humble myself in seeking God’s help, accountability and finding recovery from my addiction.

The great news is that the all the CPU I did or FPU doesn’t compare to having my life and marriage back and the freedom to choose and enjoy my Christian walk again.
